Centre Directs Karnataka to Open 90-Day Purchase Centers for Black Gram and Soybean
New Delhi: Union Minister Pralhad Joshi has announced that the Central Government has given permission to purchase two more crops at support prices in the state.
He said that along with green gram and sunflower, the Centre has now directed the state government to purchase black gram and soybean at support prices.
Just a few days ago, the Central Government had permitted the purchase of green gram and sunflower crops at support prices, and now it has approved the purchase of black gram and soybean at support prices as well. Minister Joshi said this is a Ganesh festival gift to the state’s farmers.
As soon as the support price was announced for “green gram and sunflower” and purchase centers were being opened in the state, the Union Agriculture Ministry has now permitted the state government to open support price purchase centers for “black gram and soybean” as well.
The Central Government has approved the purchase of 19,760 metric tonnes of black gram and 1,03,315 metric tonnes of soybean under the support price scheme in Karnataka for the 2024-25 Kharif season.
Minister Joshi explained that the Central Government has taken this step to benefit farmers by purchasing these crops under MSP as the prices are low in the open market.
Pralhad Joshi informed that the Union Agriculture Ministry issued an order yesterday (Aug 29) to the state government to open purchase centers for 90 days and buy black gram and soybean under the support price scheme.
The Central Government has fixed the support price of Rs. 7400 for black gram and Rs. 4892 for soybean. The support price for black gram has increased by Rs. 450 this Kharif season from last year’s Rs. 6950. The support price for soybean has increased by Rs. 292 from the previous rate of Rs. 4600.
Urging immediate opening of purchase centers: Minister Pralhad Joshi has urged the state government to immediately start support price purchase centers across the state and begin the process of purchasing green gram, sunflower, black gram, and soybean.
Prime Minister’s response to state farmers’ distress: Minister Pralhad Joshi thanked Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Agriculture Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan for continuously responding to the problems of the state’s farmers. He said they have now permitted the opening of support price purchase centers for four crops.
